Wisdom of the Vulture

Namaste and Good Day All. This week, I encountered an animal that has given me great insight into my alignment with all there is. Whenever I see an animal that I do not usually encounter, I look up that animal’s totem medicine to see what wisdom is being imparted to me. This animal imparted wisdom on how to navigate through life.

The animal was the vulture, and after doing some research, this is the information that I found. The vulture is one of the most powerful, intriguing and misunderstood birds in the world. People are quick to think about death, decay, and destruction when they come across the vulture. But little do they know that it is a special bird.

Patience and Resourcefulness

The vulture is one of the few animals that never kills, hurts or hunts, they use their keen sense of sight and smell to find fresh carrion to feed on. In their patient search for food, they use the natural air currents to glide for hours until they decide where and when to feed. In the early morning, they spread their massive wing and use the rays of the sun to dry off the dew of the evening and to burn off any bacteria from the carrion they have consumed. They are also known to urinate on their feet and legs to prevent the growth of any bacteria from their food.

When you are feeling overwhelmed and like you are expending too much personal energy, take a page from the vulture to master the energies your environment. Become aware of the tools that you have at your disposal to efficiently and effectively accomplish your goals and be open to receive the wisdom and guidance from universe.

Unity and Cooperation

Vultures are fiercely protective, and nurturing mothers. They also keep their babies much longer (about three months) than most birds. As stated before vultures harm neither plant, flora, nor animal; it preys only on carrion, never any living thing; they never touch birds even if they are dead, because they are beings of its own species.

Let’s take our cue from the vulture and strive to take care and nurture our young people and be careful not to harm our fellow man.

Rebirth and Renewal

Vultures teach us how to come together in a Spirit of unity and cooperation with others. Vultures live and work together in a spirit of harmony and cooperation. They share with friends and neighbors when they find something to eat; and when there is a big feast they share with neighboring flocks in distant roosts.

Nurturing and Protective Lovers of Life

The scientific name for the Turkey Vulture is Cathartes Aura which means Golden Purifier because it spends it life purifying the landscape and environment in its own way, ensuring the continued health and life of the environment.

We must go through the same rebirth and renewal process within ourselves. As we release that which no longer serves us, there is a kind of death; a death to negative thoughts, false beliefs and error thinking; a death to perceived hurts and offenses; death to emotions of the past that no longer exists. This is a purification of our own spiritual landscapes which makes room for our rebirth, renewal, and expansion in consciousness.

This encounter with the vulture reminded me that there are truly no coincidences in life. And hopefully, it showed you that if we look beyond the false appearances and illusions we can see through to the truth, the lessons, and the wisdom that Spirit is always imparting to us.
